Call for Papers: International Conference on the Legacy of Primo Levi
"A Sort of Wisdom: Exploring the Legacy of Primo Levi," an international conference commemorating the 25th anniversary of Primo Levi's death, will be held at Edge Hill University outside of Liverpool, England on 6-7 July 2012.
Conference organizers have opened a call for papers, and welcome proposals for 20-minute papers or for conference panels on any aspect of Levi's legacy. Proposals may be from any discipline, including literature, cultural studies, political philosophy ethics, educational studies, social theory, history, and Holocaust studies. The conference itself will be accompanied by a call for papers for an edited collection of essays on Levi's work.
Primo Levi was born and lived his entire life in or around Turin, Italy. Levi joined an Italian partisan movement during World War II, but was captured in 1944 and deported to Auschwitz. He was released in 1945 following the liberation of Auschwitz, and returned to Turin to write a series of books that made him one of the key literary figures of the 20th century.
Keynote speakers at the conference include Paul Salmons, Professor Norman Geras, Robert S.C. Gordon, Anthony Rudolf, and Judith Woolf. Submissions of papers will be accepted until 1 February 2012, and additional information can be found in the conference call for papers, poster, and website.
